I have that guitar. I whipped out the Seymour Duncans (not bad either for stock pups, a bit dark sounding but that's just to my ears, very responsive though) and replaced them with EMG 81-7 in the bridge and 707 in the neck. It is my go to guitar, fucking love it. A tad on the heavy side but was a fucking steal considering the specs. I'd buy another one in the morning. |

I actually have a preference to heavy guitars, first one was a solid mahogany body so that's not a bad thing in my book at all! |

You can't go wrong with this one then...... just change the pickups and you're sorted |

I know it might be a bit out of your price range but have you thought of the LTD MH-417 or EC-407? Solid Mahogany body 7 strings with EMG's. Quality guitars. If they are what your into then it might be worth saving a little extra for them. |

| I'd be more inclined to go for a better 2nd hand guitar than plumb for that Schecter new. I got my C7 Hellraiser for about that price, comes with EMGs stock and better hardware. I doubt the trem in that Schecter will be great either, a cheap licenced bridge could be a nightmare to maintain. If the floyd isn't a big deal than I'd look into something with a fixed bridge in that price bracket. |

Have to completely disagree with you there Eoin. I have my one almost 4 years and it never gave me any issues, the bridge has never given me any problems and as you know yourself, I constantly play it and it takes a fair amount of abuse from me. Schecters are just so well built. I've had USA Series Jackson's, ESP's, BC Rich's over the years and this Schecter wipes the floor with them. But then again, maybe I was lucky with the one I got but for the price (new) it wipes the floor with other 7 stringers. As I said, I'd buy another one in the morning.
And besides, because the bodies and necks are of great quality on them, it's cheap to pimp them up because you'd get bridges and pups fairly cheap online. |

That's fair enough, I used to play the shit out of a Jackson with a licenced bridge and it never went out of tune on me. I'm always wary about cheaper locking trems though, there's no consistency with them from company to company and you never know how good it'll be until you get your hands on it. The one bad thing about my Carvin is the not too great trem on it.
You're right though, Schecter makes some nice stuff. My C7 is a keeper and still feels great every time I pick it up. I was thinking of using it for a gig again to get some more use out of it! |

Stop fighting lads Floyds are great fun but a complete pain and I find Floyds far too cumbersome! I have one on my JS1000 and it started to go out of tune etc but nothing a quick fix doesn't help. In fairness good quality floyds have incredible tuning stability. Personally the best trem ever made, in my opinion, is the musicman one made for John Petrucci's guitars. I can't get over how good it it an no fuss. Just locking tuners do the job and less moving parts. I find I play and enjoy hardtails a lot more these days. No nonsense guitars, easy string and tuning changes and the only thing missing in terms of capability is a dive bomb here and there but how often do you need them...Mick??? haha |

All the time Rory Can't play chaotic death metal without them
Those locking tuners on the JPMM are the business. I'm sure those machine heads can be bought separately |

haha...I'll be seeing plenty of dive bombs on Sunday night so!!!! Load of delay too Mick please
Ah it's not the tuners that are impressive on the MusicMan, although the Schallers are class!!! It's the trem. It's the most impressive trem I have ever used. Amazing bit of kit!! |

Tons of delay with a bit of Whammy pedal thrown in for good measure Bring ear plugs cause I'll say the dogs in street will go mad as will any females that are present in the venue |

Been a while since I started this.
Haven't managed it yet, but I'm going to save up for the Schecter. The LTD does look nice, but personally I can't justify paying that much for what's essentially a toy for me! |

| If it's just for messing around with, the Schecter Omen 7 is a tidy piece. Picked one up on thomann.de for €389. Lovely guitar, only downside is the Schecter Design pickups. |
