Sam - you know what I mean. He's basically talking with style. Sure compare any song off this to "Sons of Odin", big difference in the singing. And that buzzy bass sound - sounds awful!
But still - a hundred times better than most other stuff Metal Hammer try to push. |

Talking with style - I'd prefer operating well within a comfort zone - which is good enough for most.....but not all.....personally,I like the more gutteral Eric Adams....that's the way Joey wants it....he can still hit the high notes live...no worries.
Thing is,all Manowarriors or lay Metal fans have a favourite band and within that a favourite album...After a while this will join Manowar's discography and will be played just as much as the rest...later in the year (maybe sooner) they will be played live and I'm sure they'll go down a treat.
The buzzing sound? I dunno, some say retro, some say experimental, others say innovative...typical Manowar - love it or hate it. |

That wont be the case for me anyway. Much and all as I love Manowar this album is a fucking dud. No enthusiasm, no standout tracks, just boring to listen to. |

What tosh. It'll be played just as much as 'Warriors Of The World' and 'Gods Of War' right enough (i.e., never), but a much as 'Kings...', 'Hail...' or 'Sign...'?! Bollocks. It's certainly not as bad as I expected, but I can't see myself ever picking it out of the shelves ahead of one of the classics.
But surely they're talking the piss with that bass sound. That can't be the finished album I'm listening to. It sounds like my speakers are broken. Been so long since they managed to blow anyone's speakers I guess they decided to make it sound like they had.
Total Annihilator vibe of the title track, which isn't a bad thing per se, but that's what we have Annihilator for. And I agree with your comments Donal, would much prefer to hear Adams sing than speak throughout the songs. |

| After that pisstake gig at the Brixton Academy last year, I have officially given up on this band. They clearly don't give a shit about their fans and what I've heard of this record (LAZY, uninspired, thrown-together-in-an-afternoon mediocrity) underlines this. Is it better than that drum machine plus cheap MIDI orchestra minus any real songs effort they put out last? Who cares. I'll stick to listening to the classics and thinking back to a time when they used to GENUINELY Kill With Power. |

You know don't *have* to defend everything they do. Sometimes bands just make shit albums. Simple as.
I'm glad I'm not a completionist, a couple of decent albums by any single band is usually enough for me. I shall continue to listen to Hail To England and Battle Hymns religiously and their other good stuff more sporadically, but this new album may as well not even exist as far I'm concerned. |

I haven't heard the new album, but I was at the Brixton gig and thought they were amazing? And although its not a classic, 'Warriors of the World' has a few brilliant tracks if you ask me. |

Forgive me if I'm doing you a disservice here, but what recent metal have you even heard? Are those bands, both on the go 20 years or so and also well past their peak, your definition of 'that new shite that the kids like'? How about comparing Manowar's recent output to bands of a similar style? Case in point, the new Grand Magus, while not their best, is obviously Manowar-influenced but poles apart in terms of quality from Joey & co's stuff. I'm sure others will be able to name several other superior recent releases in a similar 'epic' style, without even having to embarrass anyone by comparing "The King of Steel" or "The Lord of Thunder" or "The Gods of Hammers" or whatever it's called to Portrait, In Solitude, or even recent Accept. Having loyalty to a band is all well and good but it's just plain embarrassing to see people taking any old shit because Manowar are still supposedly the 'best'.
Sedgebeast hit the nail on the head in saying that Manowar simply don't care anymore. At the recent Dublin gig it was evident that Eric Adams was the only one remotely engaged in what he was doing. Karl Logan is an absolute disgrace of a guitarist, utterly soulless and tasteless. It's also ludicrous to claim that the new album is giving the fans what they want after the MIDI-fest of the last one. Of course nobody wants cheap-sounding, fake orchestral interludes, but characterless, thrown-together pastiches of old material aren't a pleasing alternative. It's frustrating because the occasional half-decent song, or the live renditions of old material, suggest that with a little effort, they could come out with some non-embarrassing stuff. But it won't happen, as they're not even bothered. |

Deffintly the worst album of their career although it could have ended up a lot worse if you look at that 'Thunder in the sky' Ep they released and some of those songs were originally meant to be on Hammer of the Gods.
There's just no imagination or enthusiasm with Manowar towards making new records. That was evident when They scrapped 'Hammer of the gods' to take the lazy way out and re-record Battle hymns for some quick cash.
The best song on this album by the looks of it is the El Gringo one they recorded for that movie soundtrack.
Gods of war and Warriors of the world were shit albums too but atleast they had several good or decent songs you could get into when watching them live.
Ah well.Rebellion and Paragon are both releasing albums soon. Will keep my money for those instead. |
