You can edit individual tracks to make them free download and it doesn't affect the the album purchase on bandcamp.

Would be very interested in playing the battle but just curious about this little bit if you don't mind me asking...Is there much of a benefit from this? Usually it just results in bands bringing as many friends as possible that couldn't give 2 shits about the competition/music and just vote for their buddy's band to win...Some of the Crypt Trial's shows turned out similiar in the past years.

Would have thought a solid panel of judges picking the best band like last time would be the best option? Sorry to bring the topic up, just said id mention it Wink

If the gig is held in Dublin then any band outside of Dublin hasnt a chance of winning really, because who in this day and age can secure a bus load of people to travel to Dublin for a Battle of the Bands? Thats a portion of your chance gone already if you cant match the local bands in terms of crowd support... not that i'd have a few thousand lads waiting in the wings if it was held in the west, but just pointing it out.

Still though, good luck with it and all the best to any band that enters it!

Very Happy

I'd love to see a heat in each province, then a final held in pedigree corner Razz

I’ll edit the above to make it more clear. Its judges + audience. There will be 4 judges. Each judge will award points to their top 3 bands (3 for the top band, 2 for the second and 1 for the third). In addition, the audience will be polled. Each audience member can award 3 for their top band, 2 for the second and 1 for the third. The audience votes will be counted collectively and the top three bands awarded 3,2 and 1 points (this is a collective audience score) which will then go into a pot with the judges votes. i.e. the most amount of points a band can get from the audience COLLECTIVELY is 3. Whereas from the judges its 12 (if they get 3 points from each judge). The maximum number of points up for grabs at each gig will be 15. In other words it is not possible for the audience vote to swing it for you on its own, but it can help.

I think that covers Patrick's point too.

But I'll add that the final has to be somewhere – for now Dublin makes the most sense. But it in no way means that its only Dublin bands that can win the audience vote. The bands playing the final will be revealed at least a month in advance of the gig and that gives all of them a chance to canvass for support equally. Who says your fanbase in Dublin has to be smaller than where you are from. I’ll bet Steel Tormentor has more fans in Dublin than it does in Ballina. Yes it’s possible that bands can get their brothers, sisters, Grannys etc along to vote for them but they’ll have to vote for more than one band (will be a condition otherwise the vote will be invalid). So some other bands Granny could give you 2 points and that along with the Judges points could make you the winner.

I’m sure bands will have all sorts of reasons not to enter this and that’s fair enough. But it’s by far the easiest route you’ll encounter to getting a record contract and playing Wacken.

I would also add that even if you don’t win the contract at Wacken you will have played in front of 40 or so judges which include not just the A&R guys from Nuclear Blast and the guys from ICS (the management company and booking agency) but also promoters (big and small) from around the world. For example the Portuguese judge runs the SWR Festival which is one of the biggest metal festivals in Portugal and the UK judge is one of the guys involved in Bloodstock. These are the kinds of people that will see your band playing – where else would you be able to get infront of people like that. Also, as you will have access to the VIP area at Wacken you can network to your hearts content with the top media, A&R people, promoters, booking agents, bands and other industry heads from around the world.

So in answer to the question: “Is there much of a benefit from this?” It’s whatever you want to make of it – but as far as opportunities go, you won’t get a better one.

Ah, good man Crunch, that pretty much covers my point.

I assumed that, like the Crypt Trials, it was 50% crowd vote and 50% judge vote... which was ridiculous. Also equally ridiculous was that in that Connaught Crypt Trials heat, 2 Munster bands won Shocked

Sorry, I should have made myself more clear...I should of said - 'Is there much of a benefit from the crowd having a vote?' as I just thought a strong panel of judges would make the right decision anyway and would eliminate bands bringing their grannys and mothers along to the gig. I definitely already saw the great opportunity from this Cool

But yep, you answered what I needed to know there very clearly, thanks...all seems fine to me and as you said, even if bands do bring along all their friends just to vote for them, they still have to throw 2 points to other bands too and with the judges having the strongest vote, it shouldn't be a problem! Smile

Ill PM ya our details soonish, sounds good...

I'd love to pull a Scavenger reunion together to try this out for the craic if any of the lads would be on for it, very doubtful tho.
