I really can't see them pulling anything resembling a decent album out of the bag now that Blasphemer is no longing in the fold. I know there are mixed (read: wrong) opinions on Ordo ad Chao but I think it is amazing and would be a fine album to exit stage left on.

Also, before someone says it, they ended when Euronymous did yadda yadda yadda.

Not a clue. I was hoping they would be streamed from Bloodstock but no dice, presumably because they have become a parody of themselves.

I agree with the Ordo ad Chao comment, I really enjoyed that album, so much so that I wouldn't mind if they hung up their church-burning pants and called it a day. Without Blasphemer, I can't see how they can do much better these days.

Morfeus is playing guitar with them now btw.

I like Ordo Ad Chao too but that came out five years ago and I really think Mayhem have lost a lot of their relevance since then.

To be honest, if no new black metal album was recorded from tomorrow, I'd still have enough music to listen to for a good few years.

On the other hand, I'd like to see them live again no matter who plays with them, for me, Mayhem has never been about flawless performance anyway.

They've been stumbling from recording to recording for years. Haven't had a future for over a decade and have been finished/dead in the water live for far longer. I can't help but feel Ordo was simply the result of them hearing some Blut Aus Nord and half-assing a replica.

Basically, Mayhem have only been relevant as a historical artifact for a long time, and while that status won't change, there is little point to looking forward to future material/performances because they essentially now only exist to destroy their own material live or ape someone else's work in the studio.

Ordo isn't great, but there's certainly worse notes to leave on, and they're certainly capable of embarrassing themselves further.

Without Blasphemer, this band is fucked. He wrote everything from WLA to Ordo. I would love to see Snorre from Thorns on guitar for Mayhem. His style would completely suit them.

I agree with the general consensus. Blasphemer is one of my favourite modern metal guitarists. I can't imagine Mayhem being much good without him; they'll just be another Hellhammer blastwankfest.

I really couldn't give a flying fuck either way what this band does. I personally thought 'Ordo....' was wank and Mayhem are usually terrible live, too. As Shunyata said above, they only have a reputation to live off and in my opinion, they were never the best band to come out of Norway in the first place: much as I love 'Deathcrush', 'De Mysteriis....' and 'Live In Leipzig', they pale in comparison to the likes of 'Det Som En Gang Var' and 'Wrath Of The Tyrant' etc. I've heard [most of] Mayhem's music and seen them live and that's sufficient for me.

I liked Ordo. They were appalling live, though. Without Blasphemer they are fucked I'd say. That interview is really cool.

De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is monumental and the only album they have that is really relevant. What passes for Mayhem post Euronymous is just drivel for the most part and like Runespawn said, they live off a reputation that was created some 20 years ago and haven't delivered music of much (any?) merit since De Mysteriis.

I'd go with nothing of any merit personally Dar. I actually think everything they've shat out since then has been damaging to the reputation of what precedes, to the extent that I've come across people who'll admit having had being wary even checking out DMDS, LAL and Deathcrush simply because they'd heard the more recent material first.

I wonder what would you do on the stage if you were as drunk as they usually are Very Happy Seen them few years ago on Brutal Assault and at least Necrobutcher was totally hammered.
