The Metal Insight Podcast #29

From depression to ascension: Mike Scheidt of Yob clears the path

Immersive art and deep dark doom

The smoke covered moons that adorn Yob’s last album are the perfect image for their music.

Higher, higher then higher again go these moons, symbolising ascent.

It’s kind of a metaphor for the band’s struggle, and that of their singer and guitarist Mike Scheidt.

From Depression To Ascension

They are a special band, it goes without saying. Creatively rich, atmospherically nuanced, and incredilby intense in how their shapeshifting Doom weaves through so many passages and movements in every song.

Would you know it was the product of a deeper inner struggle? In episode 29 of the Metal Insight Podcast, Mike tells us about his demons – and what his attitude now is to creating such demanding artistic statements of doom metal.

We talk about that incredilbe artwork on ‘Clearing The Path To Ascend’, opening up about depression, and the creative challenge of putting together their intricate and emotional underground metal.

I hope you enjoy it.
